“I've learned critical new skills.”

I never truly realized how competitive the job market has become until I tried to find a new job. This was the first I’d heard of keywords, ATS, or the need to tailor my resume for each application. Thankfully, Frank was extremely helpful in explaining all the nuances of this system. My new LinkedIn profile is just exceptional! I've also learned critical new skills that will serve me for the rest of my career. I highly recommend AmpResume.

The Problem

Sarah is an executive assistant with three years of experience. She has been actively job hunting for over six months, with little success – so she decides to have her entire career arsenal rewritten by us. We dove right into her resume, and discovered a few structural weaknesses:

  • Her resume is improperly formatted, making reading it unnecessarily difficult. Her use of fonts and font sizes is inconsistent; something that WILL be picked up on by recruiters.
  • She uses a 3-column resume. While that may seem like a space-saving layout, many older versions of ATS (the automated screening algorithms companies use to screen out candidates) cannot read information in 2 or more separate columns. Stick to 1 column to play it safe.
  • She uses a pre-formatted template. The best resumes – and the ones most compatible with ATS – are simple MS Word documents. When you use any of the pre-formatted designs or online templates, you are all but guaranteed to fail older versions of ATS, and potentially knock yourself out of the race.

Recruiters spend an average of six seconds reading each resume. They will not want to spend valuable time trying to read an improperly formatted one, especially when there are hundreds of good alternatives vying for their attention. When it comes to your career search, every little detail counts.

The Solution

After digging deeper into Sarah’s history, we manage to coax out how she was able to contribute to her team's goals. More often than not, an executive assistant needs to wear many hats, so we highlight that side of her – the multitasker that handles any situation with skill and confidence. We also highlight her cost-cutting measures and rich administrative accomplishments.

Her new LinkedIn profile distinguishes itself by employing a riveting first-person narrative. We discuss those unique personality traits that have allowed her to excel in her profession, and give examples to that effect. Thus, we allow the reader to envisage who Sarah is – an administrative dynamo, and a real asset to her team.

The Core Message
